CALLED TO MAKE DISCIPLES!
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Mt.28:19-20 KJV) These are the words of Jesus to his first disciples.
Years ago I was fellowshipping with a good Christian man. In talking with people, many times he would ask them if they believe in Jesus. If they said “Yes”, he would tell me they were Christians. I challenged him on this: believing could and does mean many things; Jesus existed, he is a good man, he is the head of a large religion, etc. The gospel message needs to be shared. Possibly a personal testimony, how you became a Christian, a disciple of Christ. Who Jesus really was and is. He was God’s only begotten Son sent to die a terrible death to pay the penalty for our sins. He was raised to life after three days. To those who will come to him, acknowledge their need of forgiveness put their trust (faith) in him, God wipes away their many sins and gives them a new life to follow and serve Christ.
Barnabas, a leader in the church at Jerusalem, was sent to Antioch after hearing that both Jews and Greeks were hearing and receiving the gospel. “When he arrived and saw evidence of the grace of God. He was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.” (Acts 11:19-24 NIV) Many more came to Christ through Barnabas. This was much more than mentally accepting certain facts. There were changes in hearts and lives. “The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.” (Acts 11:26)
